Health Care Coverage

Massachusetts has several options for people who are without health insurance. Many of these programs have eligibility requirements and cover different health care services and supplies. 

MassHealth
Provides comprehensive health care coverage to households with lower incomes and for disabled individuals.

Children's Medical Security Plan (CMSP)
The Children’s Medical Security Plan provides primary and preventive health care coverage to children not eligible for MassHealth.  Visit the CMSP website.

Healthy Start
Healthy Start provides health care coverage for pregnant women in Massachusetts. Visit the Healthy Start website.

Prescription Advantage
Prescription Advantage provides prescription drug coverage to Massachusetts residents over age 65 and to younger, low-income people with disabilities.

Medical Security Plan
The Medical Security Plan provides health care coverage for people receiving unemployment. Visit the Medical Security Plan (MSP) website.

Pathways to Public Health Insurance Coverage for Massachusetts Residents presents a series of flowcharts illustrating how people with various characteristics -- age, employment, family status -- might become eligible for coverage. In addition to the flowcharts, the publication contains descriptions of the programs and contact information for each.

Medicare
Medicare provides health care coverage for people 65 and over, disabled individuals or individuals with end-stage renal disease. Visit the Medicare website.

Citizens Health Discount Drug Card
Citizens Energy, a non-profit organization serving Massachusetts residents, administers the Citizens Health Discount Drug Card. The Citizens Health discount drug card provides discount prices on prescription medications for all residents of Massachusetts. Visit the Citizens Health website.
